Stewart Lee storms the Komedia Studio

Today, let’s just reflect that I gigged with Stewart Lee last month. I don’t have much to say about yesterday apart from: flyering, exhausted, had a nice show and chatted to two Americans in the audience.

Stewart Lee hadn’t been in the Komedia Studio for 20 years, since he’d produced the Mighty Boosh. We could have sold the tickets ten times over – they sold out in minutes – but we’d decided to keep the show in the 80-seat Studio so that we could give our Charity Chuckle regulars and true comedy fans a small, intimate, brilliant gig to remember.

And so it was. Zoe Lyons, Jim Holland and compere Julie Jepson entertained, thrilled and charmed the packed crowd. It would have been more than enough. But this night we were also treated to 55 minutes of new and newish stuff from Stewart Lee, and what stonking stuff it was too! He appeared to be enjoying it as much as we were, feeding off the reactions of an audience that was – well, very Brighton.
